MEMPHIS, Tenn. December 14, 2021 – One year ago today, FedExExpress, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’slargest express transportation company, delivered the firstshipments of the COVID-19 vaccines to dosing centers in the UnitedStates. The day marked a turning point in global efforts to controlthe COVID-19 pandemic as transportation companies like FedEx,healthcare companies, and federal and state officials coordinatedthe first shipments to begin vaccinating communities across theU.S.

Since its first shipments amid the unprecedented holiday seasonlast year, FedEx has delivered approximately 300 million COVID-19vaccine doses in the U.S., roughly half of the total vaccinesdistributed by the federal government, as well as ancillary kits tofacilities throughout all 50 states and territories. FedEx is alsotransporting the newly authorized pediatric vaccine and supportinggrowing global vaccine distribution efforts. The company willcontinue to deliver vaccines throughout another busy holidayseason, in which FedEx expects to deliver 100 million more packagesthan the company delivered during the 2019 holiday season.

Shipments of COVID-19 vaccines and critical medical supplies arepicked up from the manufacturers and distributors and delivered todosing centers for administration in communities across the UnitedStates, with an average transit time through the FedEx network ofless than 20 hours. Network capabilities also enable the movementof sensitive shipments such as active pharmaceutical ingredientsand therapeutics that play an important role in the fight againstCOVID-19.

Before the pandemic, FedEx developed innovative technologies andexpanded its cold chain facilities, which support vaccine shipmentsand other healthcare business. In the U.S., FedEx SenseAware ID, aBluetooth low-energy sensor device attached to each vaccine andancillary kit shipments, ensures these time-sensitive deliveriesmove swiftly and safely through the FedEx Express network withFedEx First Overnight service. From origin to destination,dedicated FedEx Priority Alert customer support agents are usingSenseAware monitoring technology to track the location of vaccineshipments in near real-time. This technology is complemented by theFedEx Surround platform, which leverages artificial intelligenceand predictive tools to proactively monitor conditions surroundingthe packages, allowing customer support agents to intervene ifweather or traffic delays threaten to impede delivery times.
